Originally conceived as a class project for "Environment and Society" (11.122) in the fall semester of 2002, the website is now intended to act as a clearinghouse for student research about MIT and the environment. To submit a paper for posting email greenmap@mit.edu.
This website presents a critical evaluation of data on MIT's impact on the environment. Students note important work that is underway at MIT to respond to these impacts, but also report significant areas for improvement. Policy recommendations are addressed to the MIT administration and to students on critical steps that could be taken to reduce MIT's environmental footprint.
This analysis is by no means definitive. Instead, we hope this website can help in some small way to further discussion at MIT about increasingly important environmental and social issues.
